How to Read the LearningBuilder Release Notes

by | LearningBuilder Release Notes, Product Features and Releases

We’re working all the time to make LearningBuilder better and better. Every few months, we collect these improvements and release a LearningBuilder update. We publish the LearningBuilder Release Notes on the Heuristics Blog so that you stay in the loop on what we’re doing in the system. They are also helpful if you think you might want to upgrade ahead of schedule to take advantage of new developments.

If you’ve seen these posts in your inbox or online and wondered what all of the section headings are about, you’re in luck: We’ve put together a quick guide to reading the LearningBuilder Release Notes.

Feature Enhancements

The updates in this section have top billing because they introduce a brand-new feature. When we update an existing feature, the update will be categorized below.

Example: In LearningBuilder 11.9, we introduced new integrations with Nursys and Credly Acclaim, as well as the ability for LearningBuilder to handle Large File Uploads with Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3)!

Configuration Improvements

Calling all configurators! If you use LearningBuilder’s “back end,” this section is for you. Configurability Improvements involve the Visual Rules Engine, Automations Engine, and Workflow Editor.

Example: In LearningBuilder 12.4, we noted that the Comparison Rule Editor, which is used to configure program rules with complex parameters like multiple variables, conditions, and comparisons, is now available in more high-use locations within both Learning Plan Definitions and Workflows.

Usability Improvements

In this category, you’ll find tweaks to existing functionality intended to improve the end-user experience and make the application easier to use. Often, these will be updates that improve upon an existing feature. Sometimes, we break them out into more specific categories, like the ones below.

Example: In LearningBuilder 12.1, we made our Enhanced Data Import Tool available from the Provider area. That way, education providers can now move the application process forward through the mass upload of (for example) course attendance or student registration records.

Integrations

For many of our customers, optimizing data flow between their systems is the name of the game. From test vendors to AMS, LMS, and CRM platforms to payment gateways, we’re always working to streamline integrations from planning to launch and beyond. The results of that work will appear in this section when applicable.

Example: In LearningBuilder 12.4, Now, these templates are configurable through the LearningBuilder UI! What does that mean? For one thing, advanced client administrators can manage more Learning Hub integration work without engaging the Heuristics team. In addition, the Heuristics Support team can now manage these template configuration requests without escalation, which should lead to improved ticket turnaround times.

Reporting

For all credential management programs, metrics make the world go ‘round. Program data can offer impactful insights into your credentialing operations. When we update LearningBuilder’s reporting function the updates will go in this section.

Example: In LearningBuilder 12.0, we updated our Enhanced Reporting Module to version 5.0, upgrading the encryption, API, and more. In addition, we gave self-hosted clients access to the Enhanced Reporting portal through the Sys Admin area in LearningBuilder (without the need for the portal to be deployed separately to their environment). We also made it easier to open reports in new tabs and to bookmark and share links to individual reports.

Performance Improvements

If you see this section in the LearningBuilder release notes, you’ll know that we have made improvements to “speed things up.” These system performance improvements may be something you see, like faster page load time, or something the system does behind the scenes.

Example: In LearningBuilder 12.5-12.6, we made it much faster to pull custom reports for databases with numerous field values or reporting views with a large number of columns.

Cosmetic

While Usability Improvements make LearningBuilder work better, Cosmetic Improvements make it look better. From border widths to button sizes, these changes soothe the eye and align the system with our broader UX principles.

Example: In LearningBuilder 11.8, we updated the styling of Workflow Buttons on the Activity Offering Manage page and in the Activity Audit Queue.

Bug Fixes

In each release, we also handle issues not all clients may experience. We don’t go into details about them, but rest assured that we are squashing bugs whenever and wherever they are found.
